Murang’a County Executive Committee Member for Youth Affairs, Gachucha Noah, has provided a reassuring update on the health of Pastor Jimmy Irungu, who collapsed during the 79th hour of his ambitious 80-hour endurance attempt aimed at raising awareness for cancer treatment.
Speaking after Irungu was attended to by medical personnel, Gachucha confirmed that the pastor is in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
“Our team of medics is really handling him very well. He’s very okay. He’s very stable,” said Gachucha.
“His pressure and other types of diagnosis have shown that he’s very well. He’s very stable and it’s just a matter of fatigue.”
Medics Optimistic on Irungu’s Recovery
According to the Murang’a County official, doctors have attributed the collapse primarily to extreme fatigue, noting that Irungu had pushed his body to its limits during the prolonged endurance exercise.
“The doctors have really promised us that in a few minutes or in a few hours’ time he’ll be out,” Gachucha added, expressing confidence in the pastor’s full recovery.
Pastor Irungu was attempting to break the 72-hour record recently set by fellow Kenyan Trupehena Muthoni, in a bid to spotlight the challenges faced by cancer patients and the urgent need for accessible treatment.
Gachucha praised Irungu’s bravery and commitment, describing his effort as a bold stand against a disease that affects thousands of families across the country.
“There’s no any single person who has come out in such a way to fight this menace. So he has really achieved,” he said.
“We are going to celebrate him because he’s a great man.”
