Junet Mohammed Denies Skipping Mama Ida–Sanctioned ODM Reconciliation Meeting

Junet-Ida

Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has firmly dismissed claims that he deliberately skipped an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) reconciliation meeting allegedly sanctioned by Mama Ida Odinga to resolve internal party wrangles.

Speaking amid growing tension within the formerly Raila Odinga–led party, Junet clarified that no such meeting was ever formally convened by Mama Ida, contrary to claims made by Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi.

“No, there was no meeting that was called by Mama Ida. There was a meeting that we were supposed to have with the party leader, myself, the Treasury and the Secretary General,” Junet stated.

Oburu’s Western Kenya Engagements Disrupted Plans

According to Junet, the planned engagement failed to take place after ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga was held up in Western Kenya, prompting a postponement.

“Because the party leader was held up in Western Kenya, he said let’s have the meeting on Sunday evening,” Junet explained.

His remarks appear to counter assertions that senior party officials deliberately avoided dialogue ahead of the Central Management Committee (CMC) meeting held in Kilifi on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi had earlier claimed that Junet Mohammed, alongside newly appointed party leader Oburu Odinga, skipped a pre-CMC reconciliation meeting.

Osotsi maintained that the meeting was organized following Mama Ida Odinga’s advisory to iron out escalating differences among ODM officials who have recently been at loggerheads.

The alleged snub, Osotsi argued, undermined efforts to restore unity within the party at a critical moment.

ODM’s Internal Tensions Laid Bare

The conflicting accounts highlight the deepening factional tensions within ODM, as power realignments and leadership transitions continue to stir unease ahead of key party decisions.

The likes of Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi ast MP Babu Owin have been at loggerheads with the party leadership following the demise of long time serving party leader Raila Odinga.

With both sides standing their ground, the controversy underscores the challenge facing ODM’s top leadership in maintaining cohesion while navigating internal reforms.
