Ugandan opposition leader and National Unity Platform (NUP) principal Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has broken his silence after going into hiding, alleging a violent night raid on his home by armed security operatives.
In a statement dated January 24, 2026, Bobi Wine said his residence was targeted in what he described as a coordinated operation involving security forces, coming just days after Uganda’s disputed electoral process.
Alleged Night Raid on Bobi Wine’s Home
According to Bobi Wine, armed men jumped over the fence of his home on the night of January 16, initially remaining within the compound before returning days later to carry out a full-scale raid.
He claims the operatives confiscated important documents seized laptops, mobile phones, internet equipment, and CCTV systems, took children’s school laptops and estroyed household property, including furniture and glass
Bobi Wine further alleged that his wife was held at gunpoint, with officers demanding to know his whereabouts and pressuring her to unlock passwords on confiscated devices, demands she reportedly refused.
The opposition leader framed the raid as evidence of fear and insecurity within the state apparatus.
“These are signs of weakness,” Bobi Wine said, questioning why authorities would resort to intimidation if they were confident in their claimed electoral victory.
He accused President Yoweri Museveni’s administration of harassment, lawlessness, and acting out of political panic rather than democratic legitimacy.
Why Bobi Wine Is in Hiding
Bobi Wine confirmed that he is not at his home due to direct threats to his life, stating that remaining in hiding allows him to continue speaking to Ugandans and the international community.
“My life is threatened,” he said, adding that his temporary absence is a strategic decision, not retreat.
He expressed gratitude to the international community, opposition allies, and NUP leadership for speaking out as he reaffirmed his belief that Uganda belongs to its people and must be liberated through resilience and unity.
