Former US President Donald Trump has showered praise on Kenya’s world-renowned athletics talent, inviting President William Ruto to attend the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles as a special guest.
Speaking during President Ruto’s official visit to the United States, Trump acknowledged Kenya’s dominance on the global athletics stage, particularly in middle- and long-distance running.
“The president of Kenya. We have the Olympics here. They do very well in the Olympics,” Trump remarked.
“Those runners, I don’t know what the heck you do with those runners, but they are very good. I’ve been watching them for a long time. You’ll come as our guest.”\
Kenyan Champions Poised for 2028 Defence
The comments drew attention to Kenya’s unmatched tradition of producing Olympic champions.
As the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics draw closer, Kenya is expected to field a formidable team led by global icons such as triple Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon, Double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet and 800m Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi.
All three among other Kenyan runners will be seeking seeking glory in the United States.
