Law enforcement officers in Meru have arrested six more suspects connected to the shocking gang rape incident reported on December 1, 2025, in Laare Town, Meru County.
According to official communication from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects were apprehended following a coordinated multi-day operation.
The incident came to light after a distress call from members of the public alerted authorities to a young woman in dire danger.
The woman was reportedly being gang raped by a group of men taking part in a traditional circumcision procession before being rescued by officers from Laare Police Station who rushed to the scene.
In the aftermath, officers launched an extensive manhunt to pursue those responsible.
Using forensic intelligence and targeted operations, detectives conducted raids in Irinde, Lubwa and Kiarama, successfully rounding up six suspects identified as Dennis Mwirigi, Ismael Gichuge, Elijah Muriki, Isaac Ntomauta, Joseph Marete, and Phineas Mutali.
These arrests add to the three suspects previously apprehended on December 1, bringing the total number of individuals in custody to nine.
Detectives say the pursuit is far from over, stressing that the investigation remains active as they work to identify and apprehend any remaining suspects involved in the crime.
