The Ministry of Interior has issued a traffic advisory urging motorists traveling out of Nairobi to use alternative routes in a bid to ease congestion on major highways.
In a statement, the ministry advised travelers heading to Western Kenya and the Nyanza region to use the Nairobi–Suswa–Narok route, noting that the corridor offers a smoother flow of traffic compared to the traditionally busy Nakuru highway.
Motorists traveling to Central Kenya were also encouraged to consider the Nairobi–Nyeri–Nyahururu–Nakuru route as an alternative to reduce pressure on heavily congested sections, especially during peak travel periods.
The advisory comes amid increased traffic movement out of the capital, with authorities warning that congestion is expected to build up as more travelers head to various parts of the country.
The ministry said traffic police and road safety officers have been deployed along major routes to manage flow and respond to emergencies.
Motorists have been urged to plan their journeys early, observe traffic regulations, and cooperate with law enforcement officers on the roads to ensure safe and smooth travel.
