Four members of former Chief Justice David Maraga’s campaign team are receiving treatment in hospital after a serious road accident involving a lorry on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
In a statement, Maraga said the team was travelling back to Nairobi after accompanying him to a funeral in Nyamira County when the crash occurred.
“A lorry veered off the road, lost control and swerved into us on our lane,” the statement said.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and rushed the injured campaign staff to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. Images from the scene show extensive damage to the vehicle they were travelling in, underscoring the severity of the collision.
Maraga, who is seeking the presidency in the 2027 General Election, was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

“We are following the situation closely and are in touch with our colleagues. We ask that you keep them in prayer as doctors and nurses attend to them,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Maraga and his team had attended the funeral of Mzee Meshack Machuka in Nyamira. In his tribute, Maraga described Machuka as an industrious and widely respected man who served in the transport sector, the National Cereals Board and later as a teacher in both Tanzania and Kenya before retiring in 1996.
Machuka also served his church in various leadership roles, including elder, treasurer, clerk and deacon. “We celebrate a life of service and dedication to humanity,” Maraga said.
The accident comes amid heightened concerns over road safety during the festive season, following a series of recent crashes on major highways across the country.
Authorities are yet to release further details on the condition of the injured campaign team members or the driver of the lorry involved.
