The family of former Lugari Member of Parliament Hon. Cyrus Jirongo has revealed the cause of his death following a post-mortem examination conducted after his fatal road accident.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Dr. Joseph Ndungu, a pathologist, said the examination revealed extensive and catastrophic injuries consistent with severe blunt force trauma.
According to the pathologist, the late Jirongo sustained multiple fractures, including two fractures to the right hand and fractures to both lower limbs.
He also suffered a crush injury to the chest, resulting in multiple rib fractures.
Dr. Ndungu further revealed that there was perforation of the heart, accompanied by rupture of most major blood vessels connected to the heart, leading to massive bleeding into the chest cavity.
In addition, the injuries extended to the abdomen, where the examination found a crushed liver with significant internal bleeding.
“As a result of our examination, we formed the opinion that the late Cyrus Jirongo died as a result of crush injuries to the chest and abdomen, as well as spinal injuries, all due to blunt force trauma,” Dr. Ndungu concluded.
The revelations come as Kenyans continue to mourn the veteran politician and businessman, who died following a head-on collision along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway in the early hours of Saturday morning.
