The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has honoured United States President Donald J. Trump with the prestigious 2025 FIFA Peace Prize, recognising his “exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world.”
The award, presented under the theme Football Unites the World, celebrates distinguished individuals who demonstrate unwavering commitment to global harmony through leadership and impactful initiatives.
Trump Describes Moment as One of His Greatest Honours
Speaking during the award ceremony, President Trump described the accolade as one of the most meaningful recognitions he has ever received.
“This is truly one of the great honours of my life. And beyond awards, John and I were discussing this. We saved millions and millions of lives,” Trump said.
He referenced several global crises he claims his administration helped defuse or prevent, notably the long-standing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“The Congo is an example. Over 10 million people killed, and it was heading for another 10 million very quickly… India, Pakistan, so many different wars that were able to end, in some cases, a little bit before they started.”
FIFA’s Praise for Trump
FIFA President Gianni Infantino delivered the citation before presenting the award as He emphasised the organisation’s mandate to celebrate leaders who champion peace
“The reasons for you receiving this FIFA Peace Prize, Football Unites the World… The FIFA Peace Prize is presented annually on behalf of the billions of football-loving people from around the world to a distinguished individual who exemplifies an unwavering commitment to advancing peace and unity throughout the world through their notable leadership and action.”
Infantino added, “FIFA awards the 2025 FIFA Peace Prize to Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, in recognition of his exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world.”
The award marks a historic moment as Trump becomes one of the few U.S. presidents to receive a peace-focused honour from the global football body.
While supporters hail the recognition as well-deserved, critics argue over the credibility of the interventions Trump cited.
