Cherargei Calls on Nairobi MCAs to Act Against Governor Sakaja

Senator Samson Cherargei has challenged Nairobi MCAs to take action against Governor Sakaja, accusing his administration of presiding over a collapsing city.

Senator Samson Cherargei has called on Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to take decisive action against Governor Johnson Sakaja, accusing his administration of presiding over a deteriorating capital marked by failing hospitals, poor roads, and ineffective garbage collection.

Speaking during a Senate proceeding on December 2, the Nandi Senator expressed shock at the state of Pumwani Maternity Hospital, one of the largest public health facilities in Nairobi, claiming it currently lacks a functional Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“This issue of Pumwani lacking functional ICU is embarrassing. It looks like nothing is working in Nairobi City County, Mr. Speaker. I want to challenge Nairobi MCAs,” Cherargei said.

Cherargei Says Grace Period is Over for Sakaja

The Senator reminded the MCAs that when they recently met late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, they pledged that within 60 days the Governor would have addressed key concerns affecting the city.

According to Cherargei, those 60 days have now elapsed without any visible progress.

“Imagine, Pumwani does not have a functional ICU. It’s one of the biggest facilities in this town, in this city, Mr. Speaker. Governor Sakaja has failed to provide. I want to challenge the members of the County Assembly, the MCAs, to take action. The 60 days are over,” he stated.

Cherargei accused Sakaja’s administration of failing across multiple sectors, pointing to persistent garbage heaps, poor road conditions, and stalled service delivery.

“From roads to hospitals to garbage collection, Mr. Speaker, the MCAs of Nairobi, I want to challenge you. The ball is in your court. Sixty days are over. We are ready to do the needful and fix Nairobi once and for all, to call out Governor Sakaja’s government, which is not working,” he added.
