Newly sworn-in Kasipul Member of Parliament Boyd Were delivered a deeply emotional address during a recent parliamentary sitting, recounting the tragic loss of his father whom he succeded in the recent by-elections, Ong’ondo Were.
Speaking with a heavy tone, Were opened his speech by declaring that his late father’s death was not accidental, insisting that the truth remains buried beneath unanswered questions.
“Honourable Speaker, my father was not simply taken by fate. He was killed. And as a son, I stand here with a heart that still seeks answers,” he said.
The young legislator went on to describe the profound grief that shaped his upbringing, having lost his mother, Immaculator Thiambo Amoth, long before adulthood.
“I grew up knowing the ache of needing a parent who is no longer there to guide you, to pray for you, to dream for you. And yet, Honourable Speaker, here I stand. The orphan they thought would break.”
Boyd Were Calls for Truth and Closure
Despite the unresolved trauma of his father’s death, Were was firm that he seeks justice, not revenge.
“Revenge cannot raise the dead, cannot comfort a grieving family, and cannot build a nation. Instead, I seek healing, reconciliation, and an end to the cycles of violence that have stolen too many fathers, mothers, and children from this country,” he said.
He also extended his tribute beyond his parents, acknowledging all families who lost loved ones during episodes of national violence.
