Detectives are investigating the murder of a 75-year-old woman whose body was discovered dumped in a thicket in Kyuso, Kitui County, days after she was reported missing.
According to police, the woman was last seen on December 28, 2025, after attending a church service. Her body was found the following day, partially concealed with a cloth in a secluded area.
Investigators said a leso was wrapped around her neck and face, while her underwear was recovered beside the body, raising suspicions of sexual assault and foul play. Authorities indicated she may have been attacked before her death, though the exact cause will be determined following a post-mortem examination.
The body has since been moved to a mortuary as detectives pursue leads. No arrests had been made by New Year’s Eve, and police said investigations were ongoing to establish the motive and identify suspects.

In a separate incident in Gaitu, Meru County, police are probing the death of 25-year-old Agnes Mwendwa, whose body was found at the bottom of a quarry in the Kaguma area. Relatives told police she was last seen on December 24, appearing intoxicated. Her body, discovered two days later, had visible injuries to the face. Investigators are examining whether the fall was accidental or involved foul play.
Meanwhile, in Kolenyo, Seme sub-county, Kisumu County, a man suspected of attempted robbery was killed by a mob on December 29. Police condemned the incident, reiterating that mob justice is illegal, and confirmed the body was taken to the mortuary for examination.
In Kiamachimbi, Nyeri County, authorities are investigating the death of Francis Mutahi, who collapsed after consuming alcohol at a local bar. Police said the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear pending autopsy results.
The incidents come amid a nationwide crackdown on illicit brews and narcotics, with authorities reporting the seizure and destruction of thousands of containers of illegal alcohol. Dozens of suspected brewers have been arrested and arraigned as part of efforts to curb alcohol-related deaths and crime.
