The United Democratic Alliance has pledged to carry out every commitment made with the late Raila Odinga, describing the former opposition leader as a figure whose political agreements must be “honoured in full.”
Speaking at a delegates’ meeting in Vihiga on Friday, UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar said the party remained bound by the Memorandum of Understanding signed between UDA and ODM, including the 10-point agenda the two sides agreed on before Odinga’s death.
“We in UDA will ensure that we honour Raila Odinga’s commitment. All the agreements, word for word, that he reached with President William Ruto will be implemented. It is the best honour we can give the fallen hero,” Omar said.
The pledge centres on the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, a document born of long negotiations between the two political camps, and intended to ease political tensions while proposing a series of governance reforms. Mr Omar said the report, and the broader power-sharing structure that accompanied it, remained intact.
“We as UDA and ODM will work together to ensure the goal is achieved. It was Baba’s wish that we unite,” he added.
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy used the meeting to rally support for UDA’s candidate in the upcoming Malava by-election, calling the vote a signal of where the Western region may lean ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“This vote is very crucial for the Western region and for Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. It is important for the seat to be won by UDA. Even if they combine forces, they cannot defeat us.” he said.
Omboko Milemba, the area MP and UDA’s deputy secretary-general, said the meeting aimed to reinforce the party’s grassroots presence following the merger between UDA and ANC.
The event comes at a sensitive moment for the ruling party, which is still navigating its expanded coalition while facing rising pressure to deliver on economic and governance promises. For now, UDA leaders insist the partnership with ODM will hold and that Raila Odinga’s final political blueprint will not be abandoned.
