Kenya is deepening its long-standing cooperation with China, with President William Ruto affirming that the country remains committed to a partnership built on mutual progress, investment, and shared economic aspirations.

During a high-level meeting at State House on Thursday, President Ruto hosted a delegation from the China Exim Bank led by Chairman Chen Huaiyu, accompanied by the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Guyo Haiyan.

The discussions centred on scaling up bilateral collaboration and aligning China’s investment footprint with Kenya’s new development blueprint.

Ruto Lauds China’s Expanding Role in Kenya’s Development

President Ruto noted that the growing presence of Chinese enterprises in the country reflects sustained confidence in Kenya’s stability and economic potential.

He emphasised that China Exim Bank remains a “central pillar” in the partnership, particularly through its long-term support for major infrastructure development and technical and vocational training programmes.

“The continued expansion of Chinese enterprises operating in Kenya signals their confidence in our country’s stability and their readiness to broaden investments,” read a statement from the official Facebook page of the Head of State.

At the heart of the deliberations was Kenya’s ambitious roadmap to transform into a first-world economy.

President Ruto highlighted key national priorities, including the expansion of Kenya’s energy generation capacity to 10,000 megawatts, the construction of 50 mega dams to support irrigation and enhance food security, and the delivery of transformative infrastructure across the country.

He outlined plans for the dualling of 2,500 kilometres of highways, the construction of 20,000 kilometres of additional roads, and significant upgrades to airports and ports.

The President also emphasised the strategic importance of extending the Standard Gauge Railway to Kenya’s border with Uganda to strengthen regional trade and connectivity.
