NAIROBI — Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) leader, Moses Kuria, has claimed that individuals linked to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) are plotting to disrupt Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s upcoming campaign tour.

In a statement posted on his official X account, Kuria alleged that the group plans to infiltrate Gachagua’s events disguised in CCK uniforms and demand KSh 10 million, a sum they claim the Deputy President owes to Hon. Duncan Mbui, a CCK candidate.

“For the record, Hon. Gachagua does not owe any money to Hon. Mbui,” Kuria wrote. “Any claims to that effect should be treated with the contempt they deserve.”

Kuria said his party views the alleged plan as an attempt to sow confusion and discredit both Gachagua and the CCK ahead of the November 27 event.

He also used the statement to reaffirm CCK’s commitment to peaceful politics, recalling Kenya’s painful history of electoral unrest.

“CCK has taken a zero-tolerance position on electoral violence, having witnessed what happened in 2007–2008,” Kuria said. “This is a matter of deep principle, and nothing on earth will make us depart from this position.”

The 2007–2008 post-election crisis left more than 1,000 people dead and displaced hundreds of thousands, a period that remains a stark reminder of how swiftly political tensions can spiral.

Kuria urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take the alleged threat seriously, warning that what unfolds this month could foreshadow the tone of the 2027 general election.

“What will happen on November 27th is a harbinger of what will happen on 10th August 2027,” he cautioned.

Neither the IEBC nor UDA had responded to Kuria’s claims.
