Kindiki’s Warning: Mbeere North Vote Is About Progress, Not Payback

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has asked Mbeere North voters to keep their eyes on development and not be drawn into what he called cycles of political revenge.

At a rally in Kivue, he framed the coming by-election as a choice between steady progress and bitter politics. His message was clear. The vote, he said, should be about roads, water and jobs — not settling old scores.

“You were given big offices to serve the people, but you chose sabotage and threats,” Kindiki said, referring to some of his critics who are now in the opposition. “Now you want to drag the people with you. That is not leadership.”

He was campaigning for United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard “Leo” Wamuthende, whom he praised as calm, focused and respectful. Kindiki said Leo’s plans centre on finishing stalled projects and starting new ones that will improve daily life in the constituency.

“There are many development projects lined up in our area,” he told the crowd. “We cannot abandon our own government and run to the opposition when the work has only just begun.”

Kindiki also sought to reassure residents about his role in government, saying his office exists to serve all Kenyans, including those who disagree with him.

“I am duly in office as the Deputy President. My duty is to help the President deliver for the people,” he said.

The by-election was triggered by the resignation of former MP Geoffrey Ruku, who left the seat after his appointment as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service. Since then, the race has grown tense, with leaders from both sides making frequent visits and sharp statements.

Opposition figures argue that the government is using state power to sway voters, while UDA insists its focus remains on development and service delivery.

As November 27 draws closer, residents of Mbeere North face a familiar question in Kenyan politics: whether to vote with anger or with hope for tangible change.
