Khalwale Says His Security Has Been Withdrawn, Urges Ruto to Calm Tensions Ahead of By-Elections

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale claims his security has been withdrawn, mirroring Governor Natembeya’s situation, and urges President William Ruto to calm political tensions ahead of the December 27 by-elections.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has raised alarm over what he describes as escalating political intimidation, claiming that his official security detail has been withdrawn just days after a similar development involving Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.

Speaking during a media address in Kakamega on Wednesday, Khalwale accused the government of fueling tension ahead of the November 27 by-elections.

Security Withdrawal Sparks Fresh Political Storm

Khalwale questioned why the state would recall police officers assigned to him despite his constitutional position, saying he had been allocated six officers, none of whom are currently available.

“First, Mr. President, are you aware that the security of George Natembeya has been withdrawn? Are you aware that the security of Dr. Boni Khalwale has been withdrawn? You have given me six police officers as per my office. Where are they? What are you planning to do?”

The senator likened his situation to that of Governor Natembeya, whose officers were withdrawn the night before following allegations that some were involved in facilitating political goons — claims currently under investigation by the Interior Ministry.

“Elections Are Won and Lost.” – Khalwale Tells Ruto

Khalwale called on President William Ruto to take charge and prevent political actors from heightening tensions during the by-election period.

“I want to ask the government to calm. Elections are always won and lost. There must be a winner and there must be a loser. So let’s win gracefully, but when you lose government, don’t resort to these desperate measures.”

He urged the President to rein in his Cabinet and security chiefs, insisting that free and peaceful voting should be a national priority.
