Lang’ata MP Phelix “Jalang’o” Odiwuor has launched a sharp public rebuke of Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of prioritising party politics over the oversight duties he owes Nairobi residents.
Speaking on the Dialogues with Jagero podcast, Jalang’o said Sifuna “has done a perfect job as ODM secretary general but for the people of Nairobi, Sifuna is a letdown,”
The fellow ODM Party member accused the senator of remaining conspicuously silent while Nairobians struggle with basic services.
Jalang’o questions Sifuna’s Absence
Jalang’o questioned Sifuna’s visible absence from grassroots engagement, asking, “When did you last see Sifuna do a public meeting to discuss the issues of Nairobi?”
He criticised the senator for being vocal about party matters yet failing to convene or lead public forums with MCAs and residents on pressing city problems such as garbage collection, water shortages and infrastructure decay.
Party fire power vs county oversight
The MP drew a distinction between Sifuna’s energetic role in ODM’s national politics and what Jalang’o described as a lacklustre performance on county oversight.
Jalang’o pointed to recent tensions in county politics — including a near-impeachment of Governor Johnson Sakaja and complaints from MCAs over unresolved local issues — as evidence that the senator has not exercised leadership in the oversight space.
Edwin Sifuna holds dual visibility as Nairobi’s senator and as ODM Secretary-General.
Supporters point to his national profile and party work while critics like Jalang’o urge a rebalancing toward hands-on county oversight.
