NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto on Thursday drew attention at the ongoing Nairobi International Trade Fair when he placed the winning bid for a prized bull, purchasing it for KSh700,000 during a live auction.

The auction, a highlight of the annual fair, showcased some of the country’s top livestock breeds. Farmers and agribusiness players turned out in large numbers to witness the spirited bidding, which underscored the value of Kenya’s livestock sector.

Officials from the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK), which organises the event, said the bull had attracted significant interest from buyers. The president’s bid not only closed the contest but also drew cheers from farmers in attendance.

The trade fair, held at the Jamhuri Park Showground, is one of Kenya’s leading agricultural exhibitions. It features innovations in farming, agribusiness, and trade, while also providing a platform for farmers to market their products.

By participating in the auction, President Ruto signalled his support for Kenya’s livestock industry, which plays a critical role in food security and the economy.

This year’s fair has attracted both local and international exhibitors, with displays ranging from livestock and poultry to modern farm technologies. The event continues to serve as a meeting point for policy makers, investors, and farmers looking to expand opportunities in the sector.
