Kasmuel McOure Issues Condition to Drum Up ODM Support for President Ruto

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leader Kasmuel McOure has declared that he is ready to rally young people within the party to support President William Ruto.

This promise is however dependent on if the Head of State fulfills the promises contained in the ongoing bipartisan arrangement.

Speaking during a televised interview, McOure said his backing of President Ruto would depend on the full implementation of the agreed 10-point agenda, a document emerging from the broad-based dialogue between the government and the formerly Raila Odinga-led outfit.

“If President William Ruto honours this broad-based arrangement that we have in the 10-point agenda, I assure you that as a person who once opposed him most vehemently, I will lead the revolutionary youth league of the Orange Democratic Movement to support and drum up support for him,” McOure said.

The outspoken, rising ODM figure emphasized that his stance was not a personal shift in loyalty but a demonstration of commitment to the country’s broader interests should the reform pact be achieved.

The 10-point agenda forms the core of the post-dialogue agreement between President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration and the Azimio la Umoja coalition. It covers key national concerns, including economic reforms, electoral justice, inclusivity in governance, and youth empowerment.

McOure Holds Political Seat Cards Close to Chest

When asked whether he intends to vie for an elective seat, McOure maintained that any such decision rests entirely with the party.

“I think now I’m a servant of the party. The party will decide whether I vie or not. It might see me useful in other quarters,” he said, adding that ODM remains committed to internal democracy.

He dismissed claims that the party arbitrarily denies tickets to aspirants, insisting that ODM operates on a transparent and people-centered system.

“It’s democratic in the sense that you present yourself to the people and ask for their mandate. If I ask and I get the ticket, well and good,” he explained.
