Three governors from across the political divide visited the grave of the late opposition leader Raila Amolo Odinga in Bondo on Tuesday, paying tribute to a man they described as a symbol of courage, unity and democracy.
The delegation — led by Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, and Siaya Governor James Orengo — arrived at the Odinga homestead mid-morning, where they were welcomed by members of the Odinga family and close allies of the late statesman.
The visit marked the third day since Raila’s burial and was filled with solemn reflection, prayers and words of remembrance.
Governor Lusaka described Raila as “a towering figure whose influence transcended political boundaries.” Ayacko echoed that sentiment, saying “Raila’s vision for a united Kenya will continue to guide our leadership for years to come.”
An emotional Governor Orengo, a longtime ally and friend of the late opposition chief, said Raila embodied Kenya’s conscience. “He was the conscience of our republic,” he said. “Raila’s fight for justice and equity changed our nation forever.”
The governors laid wreaths at Raila’s grave and joined local clergy for an interfaith prayer service. Several county officials from across the country also attended, underscoring Raila’s broad national appeal.
The visit comes as Kenyans continue to travel to Bondo to pay their respects, days after Raila’s burial on October 19, 2025. The funeral was attended by thousands, including President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, in a rare show of unity.
As the mourning continues, leaders have urged Kenyans to honour Raila’s legacy by upholding the principles he stood for — democracy, justice and inclusive governance.
“Raila gave his life to the service of this country,” Orengo said. “The best way to remember him is to live out the values he championed.”
