The Jubilee Party has appointed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its Deputy Party Leader, signalling an ambitious push to reclaim its political relevance ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Dr. Matiang’i, who has kept a notably low profile since exiting government in 2022, has been appointed the deputy party leader for Jubilee party and a representative for Jubilee within the United Opposition Coalition. Dr. Matiang’i is now expected to play a central role in shaping the opposition’s strategy over the next two years.
His appointment according to some political observers saythat combines Kenyatta’s legacy with Matiang’i’s reputation for discipline and administrative efficiency, a blend Jubilee hopes will restore public confidence and re-energise its base.

“We believe Dr. Matiang’i embodies the values and leadership our party stands for discipline, integrity, and service to the nation,” said Jeremiah Kioni, the party Secretary General.
Under the new structure, Matiang’i will also be supported by Party Chairperson Saitoti Torome. The NEC further endorsed his application to be the party’s presidential candidate, positioning him as one of the key figures in Kenya’s evolving opposition landscape.
The once-dominant Jubilee Party has struggled to maintain its influence since losing power in 2022, weakened by internal divisions and defections.
