Zubeida Kananu Koome, one of Kenya’s most recognisable broadcast journalists, has announced her departure from Standard Group PLC after nearly two decades.
Koome, who now serves as President of the Kenya Editors Guild, described her exit as the close of a defining chapter in her career.
“Eighteen years have been filled with lessons, growth, challenges, and friendships I will forever treasure,” she posted on her facebook account. “I am deeply grateful to colleagues, mentors, and friends who have walked this path with me.”
Her career at Standard Group spanned roles as a reporter, news anchor, and editor. She became a trusted voice on national television and a familiar figure to millions of viewers.
Koome stressed that her commitment to the media profession remains firm. She said she will continue to champion press freedom and professional standards through her work at the Editors Guild.
“The story continues, and together we keep shaping the future of media,” she said.
For Koome, the next chapter lies not in stepping back, but in doubling down on her mission to defend and strengthen the country’s press.
