A 24-year-old woman has been arrested in Kitengela, Kajiado County, after allegedly stabbing her husband to death during a domestic dispute.
Police said the victim, 38-year-old Simon Peter Thuku, died from stab wounds to his thigh on Sunday evening. He had been rushed to Kitengela Sub-County Hospital by neighbours but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
According to family members, the couple had spent the day together attending church before an argument later escalated into violence. “She called me, saying they had quarrelled and she had stabbed him,” the victim’s father, Reuben Thuku Njuguna, told reporters.
Mr. Njuguna said the marriage had been marked by repeated episodes of violence. He alleged that in previous incidents, the suspect had stabbed his son in the chest and once attempted to attack him in front of relatives. “We tried many times to encourage them to separate, but they refused. Now it has ended tragically,” he said.
Neighbours described the killing as a “heinous act” and called for justice.
The suspect, identified as Elizabeth Wanjiku Muthoni, is a shoe vendor. She is being held at Kitengela Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in Kajiado Law Courts on Tuesday.
Isinya Sub-County Police Commander Simon Lokitari confirmed the arrest and said investigations were underway. He urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully. “We ask couples and communities not to take the law into their own hands during conflicts,” he said.
The victim, who worked as a tout, leaves behind grieving relatives. His father appealed for financial assistance to help bury him in Nakuru. “We have no capacity to give him a decent send-off,” he said.
The body is being preserved at Kitengela Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
