An autopsy has revealed that lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu was shot eight times during an attack in Nairobi, with two bullets recovered from his body.
The post-mortem, carried out by government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor, showed most of the bullets struck from the right side at close range. One lodged in his spine, another in his torso. Fatal injuries to the neck and spine caused massive internal bleeding.
“We found that Wakili was shot eight times and most of the gunshots came from the right side of the body,” Dr Oduor said after the examination. “We were able to recover two bullets, which were handed to investigating officers for ballistic analysis.”
Police hope the tests will help identify the firearm used in the killing.
Mbobu was gunned down on Tuesday evening along Magadi Road. Witnesses said two men on a motorbike opened fire at close range before speeding away. He died at the scene.
The brazen attack has sent shockwaves through Kenya’s legal fraternity, where colleagues described him as a dedicated advocate. Lawyers have urged the police to move quickly to find the killers.
“This was not just an attack on one of us, it was an attack on justice itself,” said one Nairobi lawyer who attended the post-mortem. “We demand answers, and we demand them urgently.”
Police say investigations are under way but have not yet named suspects or disclosed a possible motive. Officers confirmed they were following “strong leads.”
For now, the killing of Kyalo Mbobu remains unsolved, adding to growing concern over the safety of professionals who find themselves in the crosshairs of violent crime in the city.
