Celebrity broadcaster Amina Abdi Rabar has closed a defining chapter in her media career, signing off from The Trend in her final appearance on Friday night.
For nearly a decade, Amina was the face of the show that redefined Friday night television in Kenya. She took over hosting duties in November 2017 from Larry Madowo, who had himself become a household name before leaving for CNN.
Her farewell episode on 5 September featured an unusual but crowd-pleasing line-up: six police officers from the National Police Service, who moonlight as bodybuilders, performing synchronised routines that lit up social media.

The moment, equal parts spectacle and statement, mirrored the show’s eclectic spirit under Amina’s stewardship — a blend of humour, music, and cultural snapshots.
Reflecting on her journey, the 34-year-old presenter thanked viewers, panellists, and colleagues for their support.
“Thank you so much for all the love, thank you to everyone who welcomed me. I appreciate and thank you so much,” she told fans.
Online, Kenyans responded with nostalgia and pride. Some admitted they rarely watch television today, yet celebrated her consistency. “Everything that has a beginning must have an end. You served well, Amina,” one viewer wrote. Another added: “Eight years of consistency and an impactful journey — we wish her well.”
Amina’s career spans beyond television. She began her journey at the Homeboyz Radio School before moving on to radio stints at Homeboyz Radio and Capital FM. She also fronted K24’s Alfajiri before becoming a mainstay at NTV.
Her exit places her alongside a notable list of former Trend hosts and contributors, including James Smart, Ciru Muriuki, Njambi Koikai, and Edith Kimani.
As she steps away, fans are left to wonder what the future holds for a broadcaster who has shaped Kenya’s entertainment landscape with charm, wit, and resilience.
