A veteran teacher at one of Kenya’s top girls’ schools has resigned amid serious allegations of sexual misconduct. Peter Albert Ayiro, who taught at Alliance Girls High School for 26 years, submitted his resignation to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on 17 August 2025, calling the accusations “false” and describing unrelenting public attacks on his character.
In his resignation letter, Mr Ayiro referenced severe cyber bullying, threats to his safety, and even ostracism from his church. “This decision has not come easily… I continue to endure evil, monstrous and persistent cyber bullying, threats of physical harm and public humiliation,” he stated.
He described the toll the allegations took on his well being: “great stress and strain,” and said he resigned to preserve his “dignity and peace of mind.” To meet formal notice requirements, he paid a month’s salary about Ksh 105,000—via M-Pesa.
Allegations and Investigation Underway
Mr Ayiro’s resignation came in the wake of a detailed exposé by the independent news outlet Africa Uncensored, which published accounts from alleged victims describing grooming and abuse spanning decades. In response, the TSC had already placed him on compulsory leave from mid-July, citing breaches of professional ethics and conduct.
The Commission has yet to issue a formal public response to his resignation, nor comment on the status of the investigation. Meanwhile, organisations such as FIDA-Kenya have stressed the need for accountability and safety in learning environments, saying that schools must be safe havens, not places where abuse persists unchecked.
Accountability
On one hand, Mr Ayiro insists on his innocence and cites damage to his reputation and well being. On the other, credible investigative reporting and ensuing formal action suggest these allegations merit serious and independent examination.
