NAIROBI — The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has denied reports that Siaya Governor James Orengo has resigned, calling a widely circulated resignation letter a forgery.

The statement, posted on the party’s official X account, read, We can AUTHORITATIVELY state that the letter below is FAKE. Ignore it and FOCUS.”

The letter, which appeared online over the weekend, sparked public debate due to Orengo’s notable absence from public events in recent weeks. Governor Orengo was last seen on June 5 at State House, Nairobi, during a meeting between President William Ruto and Siaya County leaders.

Since that meeting, Governor Orengo has not attended public functions, prompting speculation about his health and leadership status. However, posts on his official social media account have continued, featuring updates on development initiatives and county engagements.

On July 25, Orengo posted personal photos and wrote, Today Betty and I spent a wonderful afternoon at the lovely home of Mr and Mrs K.V. Rao, signaling ongoing public activity, though not in person.

Despite governor Orengo’s low public profile, there has been no official communication from the county government regarding leave, illness, or any impediment to his duties. The fake resignation letter has not been traced to an origin, and no criminal complaints have yet been reported over its circulation.

ODM urged the public to disregard the document and remain focused on verified communication from the party and county offices.

Governor Orengo, a senior figure in Kenya’s opposition, assumed office in 2022. His administration has been leading various development projects across Siaya County, including health, education, and infrastructure programs.
