NAIROBI — Kalonzo Musyoka has announced a complete rebrand of the Wiper Democratic Movement, renaming it the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF). The former vice president said the decision signals a shift toward renewed patriotism, youth empowerment, and full national participation ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking in Nairobi on Friday, Wiper Patriotic Front Kalonzo said the move is intended to align the party more closely with the current social and political climate.
“Political parties are not static. They should be responsive to the people,” Kalonzo said. “By becoming the Patriotic Front, we acknowledge our responsibility to rescue and reclaim our beloved nation. This informs our slogan.”
The party’s new identity was approved by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties. Kalonzo confirmed that WPF will contest all elective positions in 2027, from Members of County Assembly to the presidency.
Kalonzo described WPF as “the party of the future,” aiming to capture the imagination of Kenya’s youth, especially Generation Z. He called on young people to join the movement and help shape what he called a new era of patriotic leadership. “This is the party of the youth. Our new identity takes into account the patriotic spirit of the Gen Zs,” Kalonzo said. “We are open to new members as we expand the space and make it a truly national patriotic movement.”
The party plans to hold rallies and town halls across the country to rally support. Kalonzo hinted at upcoming announcements regarding coalitions but did not disclose potential partners. “We will make further announcements, including news about the winning coalition,” Kalonzo said. “But one thing is clear the Wiper Patriotic Front will field candidates for all elective offices in the 2027 elections.”
Kalonzo was flanked by key officials and political allies during the rebranding event. Among those present were Wiper Secretary General and Senator Shakila Abdalla, Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, Kitui Rural MP David Mwalika Mboni, Advocate Ndegwa Njiru, and youth leaders Nixon Virundu and Mercy Mawia. Several MCAs and grassroots party members also attended the launch.
The rebranding comes as Kenya’s political environment shifts in anticipation of the next general election cycle. Kalonzo Musyoka a former running mate in multiple presidential elections is yet to declare declared his ambitions for the presidency in 2027 general elections.
For now Kalonzo said the focus remains on building a patriotic, people-centered movement with national reach. “We’re preparing early because the future of this country is at stake,” Kalonzo said. “And the Wiper Patriotic Front is ready to lead that future.”
