Kakamega Homeboyz are preparing for a fresh chapter in the new FKF Premier League season with a familiar face at the helm. Patrick Odhiambo has returned as head coach, a move welcomed with open arms by the club’s management.
For Team Manager Boniface Imbenzi, the comeback signals ambition and hope.
“I think we will have a wonderful season under our new coach Patrick Odhiambo, who has just returned from KCB,” Imbenzi told reporters. “We have managed to retain a big number of first-team players, so it’s just about reinforcing a few positions and then we’ll be ready.”
Odhiambo, who left Kakamega for KCB before the 2022 season, replaces Francis Barasa, who recently moved to Tanzania. Imbenzi said the choice was straightforward once Odhiambo’s contract ended.
“Patrick Odhiambo has returned because we parted ways on good terms,” he explained. “When his deal with KCB expired, it was an easy decision to bring him back. We had to act quickly after Barasa left.”
The club faces challenges too. Striker Moses Shumah has joined Zambia’s Power Dynamos, while defender Brian Eshihanda Munyendo has signed with Tanzanian side Bamba Jiji.
“As you are aware, everyone dreams of greener pastures,” Imbenzi said. “When a door opens, it would be inhuman to block someone from pursuing his ambitions. They’ve decided to go professional, and we have to wish them well.”
Even so, there is no hint of panic. Homeboyz ended last season in third place with 58 points, just seven behind champions Kenya Police FC. With Odhiambo back and a core squad intact, the club believes it can close that gap.
For now, optimism runs through the camp. The players are back in training, the coach is home again, and the dream of lifting the league title is alive.
