Gianluigi Donnarumma’s time at Paris Saint-Germain is nearing a dramatic end. Once celebrated as the hero of their first Champions League win, the Italian goalkeeper now finds himself on the outside looking in. His agent, Enzo Raiola, has accused the club of showing “zero respect” and has warned that legal action could follow.
A Sudden Fall from Glory

The story is as surprising as it is swift. Just a few months ago, Donnarumma was being hailed as one of PSG’s pillars. His saves in Europe’s top competition were central to the club’s historic victory. He was widely considered untouchable in the squad hierarchy.
Yet, this summer, PSG signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille for a hefty fee, signalling a clear change in direction. Manager Luis Enrique left Donnarumma out of the UEFA Super Cup squad entirely. Publicly, Enrique said the choice was his alone, explaining that he “wanted a different kind of goalkeeper.” It was a stunning statement, especially when followed by praise for Donnarumma as “one of the best in the world.”
For the player, the shift felt personal. He posted on social media, saying that “someone decided that I can no longer be part of the group” and admitted to feeling “disappointed and disheartened.”
The Agent’s Outcry

If Donnarumma’s words were measured, his agent’s were anything but. Enzo Raiola, cousin to the late super-agent Mino Raiola, delivered a fierce response. He accused PSG of breaking the spirit of their relationship, claiming they had treated his client unfairly after four years together.
Raiola alleged that Donnarumma was willing to take a reduced salary to help make an agreement work, but that the club changed the terms part-way through negotiations. He said PSG’s main focus was money, not mutual respect. In his view, the club’s demand for a substantial transfer fee—despite the goalkeeper having just one year left on his contract—was unreasonable.
He also confirmed that lawyers are now reviewing the situation. If negotiations do not move forward, Raiola is prepared to explore legal routes to protect his client’s interests.
The Transfer Battlefield
With PSG sticking to a valuation believed to be in the region of £40–50 million, the market of potential buyers is limited. Raiola has suggested that only Premier League clubs have the financial means to meet such a figure.
Manchester City appear to be in pole position. They have already strengthened their goalkeeping department with the return of James Trafford, but with Ederson’s future uncertain, a world-class replacement is attractive. Personal terms with Donnarumma are thought to be broadly agreed, but City will only proceed if PSG reduce their demands.
Manchester United and Chelsea were also linked earlier in the summer, but both have since cooled their interest. In Europe, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are monitoring the situation, while clubs from Saudi Arabia have also made enquiries.
Why This Matters for PSG
The situation presents a dilemma for PSG. By holding firm on their price, they risk losing Donnarumma for free next summer. Yet lowering the fee could be seen internally as a sign of weakness, especially after their heavy investment in Chevalier. For manager Luis Enrique, it is also a test of authority. Standing by his choice could strengthen his position, but it also invites scrutiny if results falter.
The Raiola Factor
Enzo Raiola’s approach bears striking resemblance to his cousin Mino’s famously combative style. Mino Raiola was known for championing his clients with unwavering intensity, often clashing with clubs and managers in the process. Enzo’s willingness to go public with his grievances suggests this battle could escalate quickly if PSG dig in their heels.
The Road Ahead
The coming weeks will be decisive. If City move fast and PSG compromise, Donnarumma could be wearing sky blue before the transfer window closes. If not, the standoff could stretch into the season, with the goalkeeper sidelined and tensions rising.
