A court in Baringo has sentenced a man to life in prison for violently robbing a villager of his mobile phone and threatening to kill him.
Peter Natesero Lengusu was found guilty of robbery with violence after a year-long case that traced back to 10 August 2024, in Kampi Turkana village, Baringo South.
According to court records, Lengusu confronted his victim with several accomplices, who remain at large. They took the man’s phone, assaulted him, and issued death threats.
For months, Lengusu evaded arrest. He was eventually tracked down by local residents and handed over to police.
In delivering her verdict, Kabarnet Senior Principal Magistrate Caroline Ateya stressed the seriousness of the offence and the accused’s lack of remorse.
“The threats made to the victim and others were chilling,” she said. “Telling someone to start digging their grave shows a continuing danger to the community.”
The court heard that Lengusu also threatened those who helped bring him to justice. Magistrate Ateya said this reinforced the need for the harshest sentence allowed by law — life imprisonment.
Police say the search for the other suspects continues.
