THARAKA NITHI — Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed claims that President William Ruto’s administration is nervous about the 2027 elections, insisting the government is secure in its agenda and welcomes a credible electoral process. Speaking during an economic empowerment event for boda boda operators in Tharaka Nithi County, Mudavadi said those spreading political speculation are distracting the public from the real development work underway.

“We want Kenyans and the world to know there’s no fear of elections,” Mudavadi said. “Kenya will hold a lawful, peaceful, and fair election to choose its leaders.”

His remarks follow growing criticism from opposition leaders who have accused the Ruto government of manipulating political institutions, including the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), ahead of the 2027 vote.

Mudavadi defended the IEBC selection process, saying the new commissioners were appointed after thorough vetting by the National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, chaired by Tharaka MP George Murugara. He said the move resolved long-standing delays caused by legal and political gridlock.

“That process gave Kenyans a properly constituted IEBC,” Mudavadi said. “Now we have an institution capable of conducting transparent and verifiable elections.” He called out politicians questioning the legitimacy of the new IEBC, warning that such remarks risk undermining public confidence in electoral systems.

At the same event, Mudavadi pushed back against claims that the government is failing to fulfill its promises under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). He argued that progress is being made, citing the government’s housing push as an example of decisive leadership.

“For years, governments avoided the housing issue,” Mudavadi said. “President Ruto has made a difficult but necessary decision because the Constitution demands it, and Kenyans deserve decent housing.”

Referencing Article 43 of the Constitution, which guarantees basic rights to health, housing, food, water, education, and social security, Mudavadi said Ruto’s administration is aligning development goals with constitutional obligations.

Mudavadi acknowledged gaps in the health sector but urged public support as the government works to resolve them. “When you start something new, challenges are normal. But we are determined to get it right,” he said. Mudavadi added that real victory for the Ruto government will not be political, but measured by improved service delivery, food security, healthcare access, and better living conditions for all Kenyans.

He praised deputy president Kithure Kindiki, who hails from Tharaka Nithi, calling him a professional and dedicated leader. “You have a quality leader in Prof. Kindiki,” he told the crowd. “Support him as we build this country together.”

The statement comes amid renewed political tension as leaders from both sides gear up for early campaigns. However, Mudavadi maintained that the government remains steady in its course and is not distracted by opposition rhetoric.
