The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued a sharp warning about a growing scam targeting job seekers with fake employment letters and registration certificates. The fraudsters behind the scheme are reportedly charging large sums for counterfeit documents, falsely claiming they guarantee employment in the teaching sector.
In a statement released Monday, the commission said it had received reports of individuals impersonating TSC officials and distributing forged employment papers in exchange for money.
“We wish to alert all aspiring teachers and members of the public about the growing threat posed by conmen purporting to sell TSC employment letters and registration papers,” the commission stated. “Please be warned that these papers are FAKE.”
The TSC emphasized that all recruitment processes are conducted strictly through its official platforms and follow established procedures. It urged job applicants to verify vacancies directly from TSC’s official website or trusted sources.
“These individuals prey on your ambitions and exploit your trust,” the commission said. “They charge hefty sums for documents that have no legal standing.”
According to the statement, the scam undermines not only the integrity of the profession but also the credibility of the national education system. TSC called on the public to protect the teaching profession by refusing to engage with fraudsters and reporting any suspicious offers.
“We all have a role to play in safeguarding the credibility of our education system,” the commission added. “Let’s honor the noble teaching profession.”
TSC also encouraged victims or witnesses of such fraudulent activities to file reports immediately with law enforcement or contact the commission’s offices.
The warning comes amid rising concerns over job scams in Kenya’s education and labor sectors, where desperate applicants are increasingly falling prey to conmen promising guaranteed employment for a fee.
TSC reiterated that it adheres to principles of merit, fairness, and transparency in its hiring process and does not charge for employment.
Anyone seeking a teaching job or TSC registration is advised to follow the official guidelines and avoid intermediaries promising shortcuts.
