NAIROBI — Nigerian singer Tems, the Grammy Award-winning artist whose soulful voice has taken the world by storm, is scheduled to headline Blankets & Wine in Nairobi on 28 September 2025.
It’s a long-awaited return. Tems was initially set to perform in Kenya back in October 2022, but the show was cancelled leaving fans disappointed and hopeful ever since.
Now, that hope has turned into excitement.
Organisers confirmed the news via social media on Thursday evening. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), they wrote:
“Get ready for an unforgettable time on September 28th as we bring together an electrifying lineup featuring the sensational talents of @temsbaby @itsJoshuaBaraka @nubia_we @ZaituniWambui1 @fliermusic @billyblackKE @iamchimano & Toxic Lyrikali! #ItsAlwaysAGoodTime”
This will mark Tems’ first live performance in Kenya, coming just weeks after her highly praised halftime show at the FIFA Club World Cup Final in New Jersey, which many described as “career-defining.”
Tems, born Temilade Openiyi, has in recent years carved out a powerful presence in global music. Known for hits like Free Mind and Essence her collaboration with Wizkid she has gained both critical acclaim and a loyal global following.
Joining her in Nairobi will be a carefully curated lineup of East African talent.
Kenya’s own Willis Chimano, of Sauti Sol fame, will also take the stage. Known for his rich vocals and striking personal style, Chimano is expected to deliver one of the night’s standout performances.
Also in the mix is Zaituni Wambui, the artist behind the genre-bending sound dubbed Urban Taarab, which fuses Swahili musical traditions with contemporary beats.
From Uganda, Joshua Baraka will bring the viral energy of his hit song Wrong Places, while Toxic Lyrikali a rising star known for raw lyrics and a gritty, street-wise aesthetic adds a sharp edge to the lineup.
The full programme promises an evening that blends culture, creativity, and international star power. Many online users have already dubbed this the “best Blankets & Wine lineup in years.”
Held at the usual lush outdoor venue, Blankets & Wine has grown into one of East Africa’s most popular music and lifestyle festivals blending food, fashion, art, and top-tier live performances.
