“Superman” soared past the $400 million mark globally over the weekend, holding its top spot at the North American box office for the second straight week. The superhero blockbuster, backed by Warner Bros. and DC Studios, brought in $57.3 million from theaters across the United States and Canada, according to estimates from Exhibitor Relations.

The film’s domestic total now stands at $235 million, with international earnings pushing the global figure to $406 million. Strong reviews and high audience turnout have continued to fuel its success since opening.

“Jurassic World: Rebirth” remained in second place, earning $23.4 million in its third weekend. Its total global earnings have now reached $647.2 million. The latest chapter in the dinosaur franchise stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali and is set on an isolated island where scientists encounter new mutated species and hidden secrets.

Slashing its way into third was “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” a sequel reviving the 1990s horror franchise with original cast members Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt. It debuted with $13 million in domestic ticket sales.

“This is another horror series returning after a long layoff, in this case after 27 years,” said analyst David A. Gross. “Generally, the layoffs don’t bother these films; in fact, they get stronger… that’s not happening here.”

Animated newcomer “Smurfs,” featuring Rihanna as the voice of Smurfette, entered in fourth place with $11 million in North America.

In fifth was “F1: The Movie,” starring Brad Pitt as a former Formula One driver on a comeback mission. It grossed $9.6 million in its opening weekend.

“The current lineup in theaters is strong, with a broad selection of big titles including superheroes, action, monsters, horror, and animation,” Gross noted in an analysis of the weekend’s performance.

As “Superman” continues to dominate, its next box office challenger is just around the corner. Marvel’s highly anticipated “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” starring Pedro Pascal, is expected to debut in the coming days.

With strong competition and diverse offerings across genres, cinema attendance remains steady heading into the final weeks of summer.
