Elgeyo Marakwet – President William Ruto has accused opposition leaders of inciting violence and promoting ethnic divisions instead of offering realistic solutions to national problems. He issued the warning while speaking in Elgeyo Marakwet County during the 9th Edition of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme.
Ruto condemned what he called “reckless political incitement” that has led to destruction of property and public unrest.
“Religious and political leaders must stop inciting our youth into violence, lawlessness, and destruction,” the President said. “We need to ask ourselves if this is the path we want our country to take.”
He pointed to recent protests in parts of the country and described them as politically orchestrated efforts to revive failing political agendas. He challenged opposition leaders to focus on policy, not chaos.
“I’m ready to be held accountable for my promises,” Ruto said. “But let my competitors also table their solutions. What is your agenda besides shouting slogans like ‘Ruto must go’?”
Ruto made it clear that his government will not tolerate incitement or violence, and emphasized that police have the authority and training to restore and maintain order.
“Enough is enough,” he said. “Kenya must remain secure. The police have a constitutional mandate to deal with criminals destroying public and private property.”
Earlier in the day, the President commissioned the Etio Dam in Kapteren, Keiyo North. The dam, with a 160 million-liter capacity, is set to irrigate 2,500 acres and benefit over 8,000 households.

He also launched the Tirwane-Tirone Irrigation Development Project in Keiyo South, which will bring over 1,000 acres under irrigation and is expected to benefit 25,000 households. The project aims to boost food security through the production of crops like pyrethrum, with annual returns projected at Ksh650 million.
“These initiatives are not just about food. They’re about creating jobs, growing incomes, and building a self-reliant economy,” Ruto said.
The President added that his administration is prioritizing youth empowerment through technology and digital education.
“We are opening up opportunities so that young people can use their digital skills to learn, work, and build businesses,” he said.
Ruto’s message comes amid rising political tensions and a wave of demonstrations across the country. He warned leaders against exploiting the frustrations of unemployed youth for political mileage.
“We will not allow selfish individuals to hijack the country’s future. Let them bring ideas, not anarchy,” he said.
