In the cool breeze of Ngong Hills, Gloria Kyallo media personality and youngest sister of Betty Kyallo hosted a birthday picnic this weekend. The guest of honour? Her dog.
Yes, you read that right.
On Sunday, July 27, Gloria marked her beloved dog Luka’s third birthday with a small, intimate celebration that included light snacks, birthday props, and sweeping views of the hills. Her sister, Mercy Kyallo, was present, as was Gloria’s ex-boyfriend, Ken Warui who, it turns out, still plays an active role in the dogs’ lives.
“Happiest birthday to my sweetest little boy,” Gloria wrote on Instagram. “You’re so brave, so smart, so pretty. You and your siblings are my greatest loves.”
The post featured snaps of Luka enjoying the outdoors alongside his two siblings, Lulu and Linky Gloria’s other dogs. She often calls them her “greatest loves,” and the affection was evident as the dogs basked in the attention, balloons, and sunshine.
In a video shared on her story, Gloria addressed her unusual but heartwarming arrangement with Ken, saying, “Co-parenting dogs is not as different as co-parenting kids. Sometimes I’m with Ken’s dogs, and sometimes he’s with mine. They get a full experience because they are with both parents.”
Ken agreed, adding with a chuckle, “The only difference is that one is a human being and the other one is a dog but the roles are just the same.”
The two appeared at ease proof that their breakup hasn’t affected their shared commitment to their furry family. According to Gloria, all three dogs receive equal attention from both sides.
The event, though simple, speaks to a growing trend in Kenya’s urban culture: treating pets as part of the family. Gloria’s gesture may raise eyebrows among some, but for many young Kenyans who now share their lives with pets, it’s perfectly normal.
Gloria has never hidden her love for animals. As a former cast member of the family reality show Kyallo Kulture, and a frequent user of social media, she often shares glimpses of life with her dogs.
While some may dismiss it as “extra,” the day was ultimately about love of the loyal, four-legged kind.
