The family of Kenyan activist Mwabili Mwagodi has raised the alarm after he went missing in Tanzania, where he works at a beach hotel in Kigamboni.
Mwagodi, known on social media as TL Elder, was last seen on Wednesday night in Dar es Salaam. His relatives say all attempts to reach him have failed.
Mwagodi’s relatives fear his disappearance may be linked to his activism. He has been vocal in mobilising young people online and opposing certain church fundraising activities linked to Kenyan politicians.
Human rights defender Hussein Khalid confirmed the disappearance, calling it a worrying trend.
“A Kenyan has been abducted in Tanzania. Again,” Khalid wrote on social media. “Family has confirmed that Mwabili Mwagodi, who is a Kenyan activist and was vocal against church donations, was abducted in Tanzania on Wednesday.”
The hashtag #FreeMwabiliMwagodi is currently trending on X(Twitter). Kenyans on X continue to fight for him to be released to his family safely.
Khalid suggested that Tanzanian authorities may be targeting Kenyan activists.
Officials in both Kenya and Tanzania have not yet issued statements on the case.
The family is appealing for help from the public and international rights groups to trace Mwagodi.
