Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has been reassigned from the Budget and Appropriations Committee to the Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committee following a wide-ranging reshuffle of National Assembly committees. The changes were adopted by the House on Tuesday, July 29, after a motion tabled by Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro received parliamentary approval.

Under the new lineup, Edwin Mugo Gichuki replaces Ndindi Nyoro’s on the Budget Committee. Gichuki’s previous role in the Departmental Committee on Tourism and Wildlife now goes to Leah Sopiato Sankaire.

Shakeel Shabbir, MP for Kisumu East, has joined the Committee on Powers and Privileges alongside Jane Njeri Maina. They replace John Bwire and James Oyoo, who have been redeployed to other committees. Oyoo now sits on the Decentralized Funds Accounts Committee, replacing Joyce Bensuda Osogo.

The reshuffle also filled slots left vacant by the deaths of two sitting lawmakers. Bensuda Joyce Atieno Osogo has replaced the late Charles Ong’ondo Were in the Blue Economy, Water, and Irrigation Committee. Peter Ochieng’ Orero now joins the National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity Committee, also filling a slot left by the late Charles Were.

In a reciprocal swap, Muiruri Muthama Stanley and Chepkwony Charity Kathambi exchanged roles between the Blue Economy and Implementation Committees.

Other significant changes include:

  • Mary Wamaua Njoroge replacing Liza Chelule Chepkorir in the Labor Committee.
  • Chelule now serves in the Regional Development Committee, replacing Mary Emaase Otucho, who moves to the Public Accounts Committee.
  • John Bwire moves to the Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives Committee, filling the gap left by Geoffrey Ruku, who was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Public Service.
  • Nimrod Mbai joins the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee, replacing Eric Muchangi Karemba.
  • Karemba now sits on the Public Petitions Committee along with Patrick Munene Ntwiga, replacing Ernest Kagesi and Mbai, respectively.

The National Assembly shared the full list of committee changes on its official social media account following the vote.

“The House has approved changes to its committee memberships,” the Assembly outlined. “These adjustments ensure continued functionality and equitable representation in line with ongoing legislative demands.”

The realignment reflects the shifting responsibilities within Parliament and follows recent appointments to the Cabinet, deaths of serving members, and committee performance reviews.
