A community in Molo, Nakuru County, is stunned after a 16‑year‑old confessed to killing his mother. The boy says he acted after she would not tell him who his biological father is.
The incident unfolded on Friday, 25 July, shortly after 1 pm at the family home in Nyakiambi, police say. The mother described by neighbors as quiet and hard‑working declined to reveal the man’s identity. Her son, a Form Three dropout identified as “AG”, is reported to have struck her head repeatedly with a blunt object. She died instantly.
Attempt to Hide the Crime
On Saturday, he dug a shallow grave inside a neighboring unoccupied building on their compound. He planned to bury her body the next morning.
His plan collapsed the following day, 27 July, when the victim’s brother visited the house concerned after losing contact. He found the scene and alerted the authorities.
Police arrived and found the body inside the house. The teenager admitted the killing and was arrested on the spot . The body was taken to Elburgon Level IV Hospital morgue pending autopsy.
Police Response and Investigation
A senior officer, speaking off the record, called the case “bizarre and deeply troubling”. He said the boy is receiving psychological assessment under investigation.
The police confirmed that law enforcement agencies from Elburgon Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations responded swiftly and secured the scene.
Community Reaction and Broader Context
Neighbours say the area is mourning. One resident said simply: “We cannot believe it happened here.” No one had any warning signs about the boy’s behaviour.
Analysts note that family disputes and questions around parentage can fuel conflict when young lives lack support networks. Mental health experts warn that unresolved trauma may lead vulnerable youths to snap under pressure.
What Lies Ahead
The boy remains in custody as investigators piece together the full story. Forensic staff will determine the exact cause of death in the autopsy.
