Manchester United have reached an agreement with Brentford to sign winger Bryan Mbeumo in a deal worth £70 million, bringing one of this summer’s longest-running transfer sagas to a close.

According to The Athletic, the two clubs have finalised the full package for the 25-year-old Cameroon international, who had already agreed personal terms with United weeks ago. Mbeumo made it clear early on that Old Trafford was his preferred destination.

The transfer fee includes both fixed and performance-based add-ons. Sources close to the negotiations confirmed the deal is now “sealed,” with just the official announcement pending.

Mbeumo becomes the latest high-profile signing under United’s new recruitment strategy, following the arrival of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha earlier this month. It marks a significant investment in strengthening the club’s attacking options as they prepare for a crucial campaign under manager Erik ten Hag.

United had been tracking Mbeumo since the start of last season. His standout performances for Brentford, where he scored 9 goals and assisted 6 in the Premier League despite missing two months due to injury, caught the attention of top clubs across Europe. But it was United who moved quickest.

Brentford were initially reluctant to sell, but a source close to the club said the final offer was “too good to turn down.” The West London side are now expected to reinvest the funds into multiple areas of their squad.

Mbeumo, who joined Brentford in 2019 from Troyes, made over 180 appearances for the club and played a key role in their rise to the Premier League. He is widely respected for his direct style, pace, and intelligent movement off the ball.

United fans will be hoping he can bring the same energy and cutting edge to a squad in transition. His arrival is seen as part of a wider rebuild, with the club looking to close the gap on rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.

Neither club has issued an official statement yet, but a United source told The Times, “The player’s desire to join us never wavered. We’re delighted to welcome him to Manchester.”

The Premier League season kicks off in just under a month, and Mbeumo is expected to be available for United’s pre-season tour in the United States next week.
