Kirinyaga – Detectives in Kirinyaga East Sub-County have arrested a man accused of impersonating a police officer and recovered multiple government-issued items from his possession.
The suspect, identified as Newton Wachira Waweru, was tracked down through intelligence reports and arrested during a targeted operation. He later led officers to his residence in Makongeni, Thika, where a search was conducted.
According to an official statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the search recovered two police smoke jackets, two jungle green trousers, a green prison lanyard, desert military boots, a replica firearm, and other equipment commonly used by security forces.
Waweru was taken into custody along with the seized items. He is currently being processed and is expected to be arraigned in court after investigations are completed.
Detectives are working to establish how the suspect obtained the police gear and whether he has been involved in any criminal activity while impersonating a law enforcement officer.
Authorities have not confirmed any prior offenses, but the case remains open as they examine possible links to broader criminal networks.
Police have urged the public to report individuals suspected of impersonating officers or misusing government-issued attire.
As of Monday, no formal charges had been announced. The DCI stated that updates would follow pending the outcome of ongoing inquiries.
