Nairobi — Team Kenya is headed to Algeria for the inaugural African School Games, following a ceremonial send-off led by National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) President Shadrack Maluki at the Kasarani training camp on Wednesday. The team, made up of 20 athletes, will compete in six disciplines athletics, boxing, wrestling, judo, cycling, and tennis between July 26 and August 5, 2025. Each sport features two participants, one male and one female, selected to represent the country under the leadership of Chef de Mission Paurvi Rawal.

“Represent Kenya with pride, discipline, and unity,” (NOC-K) President Maluki told the athletes. “You are the face of a rising generation. Carry our flag with honor and let the continent feel your presence.”

(NOC-K) President Maluki was joined at the flag-off by the newly elected NOC-K executive board, including Secretary General John Ogola, Treasurer Fred Chege, Deputy Treasurer Charles Mose, and Executive Member Major (Rtd) Suleiman Sumba.

The Games will take place across four Algerian cities Annaba, Constantine, Sétif, and Skikda. The event is organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) with support from the International School Sport Federation (ISF) and the Algerian government.

The competition serves as a launching pad for young athletes preparing for larger events, including the African Youth Games in Angola later this year and the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar in 2026. It also aims to foster talent development, cross-cultural exchange, and uphold Olympic values throughout Africa.

With full support from the newly installed NOC-K leadership, the athletes enter the Games with heightened morale and high expectations.

The team will be looking to build on Kenya’s reputation in athletics while gaining experience in lesser-known disciplines such as judo and cycling. Their performance in Algeria will help shape Kenya’s future presence in youth international competitions.
