Lari Boys High School in Kiambu County has been closed indefinitely following a fire that tore through the institution on Saturday night, destroying classrooms and the administration block.
The fire broke out at around 10 p.m., according to initial reports. By the time it was contained, multiple classrooms and key administrative offices had been reduced to rubble. Only the dormitories remained intact.
School officials and local authorities have linked the incident to student unrest. Witnesses claim tensions escalated after students were denied access to musical instruments, a decision that reportedly sparked the rebellion.
Efforts by nearby residents to help put out the blaze were cut short after a group of students pelted them with stones. No one was injured during the incident, and no fatalities have been reported.

By early Sunday morning, distressed parents had arrived at the school to collect their children. Some expressed frustration over the lack of early communication, while others called for thorough investigations into the cause of the fire.
Authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the full extent of the damage and those responsible. Education officials are expected to issue guidance on when and if the school will reopen.
The fire at Lari Boys is the latest in a string of school-related unrest cases reported across the country in recent months, raising concerns about student discipline and school safety.
The Ministry of Education has yet to release an official statement but is expected to dispatch a team to assess the damage and provide recommendations on the way forward.
