NAIROBI — Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi was charged on Wednesday with staging his own abduction to evade prosecution over land fraud allegations. Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi at the Milimani Law Courts, Koimburi was accused of staging the alleged abduction on May 25, 2025, in Mugutha, Juja Sub-County. According to prosecutors, the MP conspired to obstruct justice by fabricating the incident ahead of a scheduled appearance at the Kiambu Law Courts, where he was expected to answer to four charges linked to land fraud.
Prosecution Counsel Victor Owiti and Nora Achieng told the court that the abduction narrative was a deliberate attempt to avoid legal consequences.
In addition to conspiracy, Koimburi faces a second charge of publishing false information. The prosecution claimed that on June 7, 2025, while admitted at Karen Hospital, the MP published a video on YouTube in which he alleged he had been abducted and tortured by unknown criminals. Authorities say the statement was knowingly false and intended to alarm the public.
Juja MP George Koimburi denied all charges and pleaded not guilty.
The magistrate granted the MP release on a cash bail of Ksh 300,000. The court also directed him to provide three contact persons. The case is scheduled for mention on August 5, 2025, when the court is expected to give further directions.
