NAIROBI -Kenyan actress Jackie Matubia has opened up about the pain and confusion she faced while trying to co-parent with her ex-partner, actor Blessing Lung’aho.
Speaking candidly on the G2G Podcast, Matubia said her attempts to foster a healthy relationship for the sake of their child were often misread. What she saw as a commitment to parenting, Lung’aho and those around him interpreted as a desire to rekindle their romantic relationship.
“I tried. His friends saw it,” Matubia said during the interview. “I used to drive to where he was, but he thought I wanted him back.”
The two, once one of Kenya’s most admired celebrity couples, welcomed a child together before their relationship ended in 2023. Since then, Matubia has largely kept details of their private life out of the spotlight. But this week, she broke her silence-hoping, perhaps, to set the record straight.
“I did it for our child,” she said. “I was just trying to make it easier-for all of us.”
Matubia’s comments have sparked a wave of reactions online, with fans and fellow celebrities showing support. Some praised her for speaking up, while others urged both parents to prioritise their child’s well-being above all else.
Blessing Lung’aho has not publicly responded to the remarks. The actor, known for his roles in Zora and Maria, has generally maintained a low profile when it comes to personal matters.
Matubia, however, stressed that her story isn’t about blame. “It’s not about who did what,” she said. “It’s about making sure our child doesn’t get caught in the middle.”
Her message adds to a growing conversation in Kenya about the challenges of modern co-parenting-particularly in the public eye, where assumptions and rumours often cloud the truth.
