Nairobi – Harambee Stars’ local-based players entered the second day of residential training at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, as preparations intensify for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). This will mark Kenya’s debut in the tournament.

The CHAN tournament, scheduled from August 2 to August 30, will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Head coach Benni McCarthy is working with a provisional squad of 29 players. He is expected to finalize a 23-man list in the coming weeks.

Kenya will open its Group A campaign against two-time champions DR Congo on August 3 at Kasarani Stadium. The team will face Angola on August 7 and Morocco on August 10. They will wrap up the group stage against Zambia on August 17.

All group matches will be held in Nairobi.

McCarthy has emphasized discipline, match fitness, and tactical organization during the closed training sessions. The team’s technical bench has also focused on player rotation and injury prevention during the build-up to the highly anticipated tournament.

This will be Kenya’s first appearance in CHAN, a tournament exclusive to players who compete in their national leagues. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the match schedule last month, with Kenya drawn into one of the most competitive groups.

The CHAN tournament provides a platform for domestic league players to showcase their skills on an international stage. Expectations are high for Harambee Stars, especially as the host nation.

The Football Kenya Federation is coordinating logistics and support for the team, with plans underway to ensure the squad is fully prepared both physically and mentally for the challenge ahead.
