KINANGOP — National and local leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to fast-track key road construction projects in Nyandarua County, with a focus on improving transport access and unlocking rural development. During a community gathering in Kinangop on Saturday, government officials pledged full backing for ongoing works, citing road infrastructure as a core pillar of the county’s economic and social progress.
One of the major projects underway is the Waki Road in Ngorano. According to Engineer Mbugua, funding for the road has already been secured. He confirmed that construction will proceed without interruption and that quality standards will be strictly enforced. “The government has allocated the necessary funds. This project will continue until it’s fully completed,” Engineer Mbugua said, assuring residents that there will be no delays.
Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano reiterated the sentiments adding that improved roads directly affect the cost of living and are central to the government’s national development agenda. “Infrastructure connects people to markets, schools, hospitals, and other critical services,” she said. “This is not just about tarmac it’s about boosting livelihoods, supporting agriculture, and opening up rural regions like Nyandarua to new opportunities.”
The remarks were made at a thanksgiving service held at AIC Church in Githioro, Kinangop. During the event, leaders also launched construction of a new access road to the church. President William Ruto, through area MP Kwenya Thuku, pledged Ksh 3 million toward the church access road.
Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku, who hosted the event, welcomed President Ruto’s pledge of Ksh 3 million for the project and praised the government’s continued investment in local infrastructure as a clear demonstration of its commitment to the people of Nyandarua.“Our people have waited for this for a long time,” he said. “We are grateful for the support, and we’ll keep pushing for more roads that connect our farms, homes, and trading centers.”
Nyandarua is a key agricultural region, known for its productive highlands. Poor road conditions have long hampered farmers’ ability to move produce efficiently, leading to losses and limited market access.
Better road networks are also expected to enhance the region’s appeal for tourism and investment, while easing travel for schoolchildren, patients, and local businesses.
With ongoing works gaining momentum, leaders say they will monitor progress closely to ensure timely completion and value for money.
The Kinangop road upgrades are part of a wider plan to modernize rural infrastructure across the country, in line with President Ruto’s broader economic strategy.
