Muhoroni – Deputy President Kithure Kindiki praised the political cooperation between President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying it is key to ending regional discrimination and fast-tracking development across Kenya. Speaking at Midika Grounds in Muhoroni Constituency, Kisumu County, DP Kindiki said the broad-based government is focused on inclusive progress. He emphasized that all parts of the country, including the Nyanza region, will benefit equally from national development programs.
“All of us in the broad-based government led by President William Ruto will ensure every part of the country, including Kisumu and the Nyanza region, benefits from development. There is no room for discrimination anymore,” DP Kindiki said during an economic empowerment forum for women, youth, and people with disabilities.
DP Kindiki commended Odinga for putting national unity ahead of personal political ambition. “Raila has cast aside his own interests in favor of a better nation. We respect him for what he has done for our country,” DP Kindiki reaffirmed.
Since the formation of the current government, the Nyanza region has seen the revival of key economic sectors. Sugar factories Muhoroni, Sony, and Chemelil are currently undergoing upgrades under a public-private partnership aimed at strengthening production, management, and returns for farmers.
DP Kindiki highlighted that local cooperation has played a vital role in pushing these initiatives forward. “We want to make sure farmers are paid well and receive their pay on time. By the end of the year, they will also be eligible to receive bonuses like those paid to tea, coffee, and pyrethrum farmers,” Kindiki added.
Construction of the 52-kilometer Mamboleo–Miwani–Muhoroni–Chemelil Road has started after years of delay due to lack of funding. The Deputy President Kindiki said this road will improve transport and trade links across sugar belt areas. 17 modern markets are being built across Kisumu County, while the affordable housing program has delivered new units in Lumumba Estate. Hostels have also been constructed at Kisumu National Polytechnic, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga KMTC, and Muhoroni Technical Institute.
DP Kindiki urged residents to support the current administration’s development plan, saying two full terms are needed to complete the work already started. “Two terms to complete revival of sugar factories. Two terms of better healthcare systems, more affordable houses, roads, and electricity expansion,” DP Kindiki said.
DP Kindiki also acknowledged the high registration numbers for the Social Health Authority (SHA) coverage in the region and assured residents that the government is committed to ensuring the health program remains reliable. “This is about fairness. Every Kenyan, no matter where they live, must feel the impact of government,” DP Kindiki said.
The Deputy President’s visit to Muhoroni highlighted the administration’s continued effort to strengthen national cohesion and deliver services without bias, with renewed focus on economic empowerment and infrastructure in previously marginalized regions.
